Lost Trail Loop – Big Bear Lake – MTHC

8:30am, easy/moderate, 4.5 miles, 600 ft. elevation gain. Lost Trail starts off 2N08 and meanders thru lush, shady meadows with lots of wildflowers. We will return via a portion of the Pine Knot Trail back to the starting point. Bring water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, and hiking boots. Sierra Club Annual Children’s Forest Car Camp – Mountains Group

Friday , 2pm or after, check in at the Shady Cove campground. Join us for a potluck at 6pm on SATURDAY. Bring drinks, a dish to share, firewood and folding chair to sit around the fire. Sugarloaf Mountain -- Sierra Club, Big Bear Group

8:15am, strenuous, 11 miles, 2,500 feet elevation gain. This is a “Peaks” of Big Bear hike. Those achieving all five peaks overlooking the Big Bear Valley will be given a commemorative patch. Meet at the Von’s Shopping Center in big Bear lake to carpool to the trailhead. An Adventure Pass is required for parking. Mountain Moonlight Meander – Sierra Club, Mountains Group

8pm, easy, 1 mile path. Join us at Heap’s Peak Arboretum for an easy moonlit stroll in the forest, as it might have been a hundred years ago. What will we see? What will we hear? But don't worry, it will be a “walk in the dark.” Nighttime photographers encouraged. Bring weather appropriate clothes, and a flashlight, preferably one with a night-vision red light. Oxyn Summit to Misson Spring Camp– Sierra Club, Big Bear Group

8am, strenuous due to distance, 13.5 downhill through hike. This is Hike #9 of the Pacific Crest Trail, Section C Recognition Program. Those hikers completing all ten segments will receive a special recognition patch. Those hikers coming from Big Bear area or the Apple Valley/Yucca Valley areas should meet at Onyx Summit at 8am. Those hikers from the San Bernardino/Highland areas should meet at Mission Spring Camp at 8:30am. Bring the ten essentials, layered clothing, sun protection, minimum 3 quarts of water, lunch/snacks, sunglasses, hat and good hiking shoes. Pacific Crest Trail -Van Dusen Canyon to Polique Canyon – Sierra Club – Big Bear Group

9am, moderate, 7 miles, approx. 600 ft. elevation gain. PCT through mostly shaded forest. Bring water, snacks/lunch, sturdy boots and clothing appropriate to the weather. MTHC Annual Picnic, Potluck and Hike

8:30am, Aspen Glen Picnic area – Big Bear LakeAll levels of hiking. The club will provide drinks and fried chicken so bring a salad or dessert to share. And a folding chair and cooler if needed.
We will meet at the Aspen Glen Picnic area on Mill Creek Road on the south side of Big Bear Lake at 8:30am. Then we will split into 3 different hiking groups.
Easy hike with Bill off 2N10, some off-trail, some forest service road and some regular trail, passing a meadow and stopping at a spring-fed, yellow-post camp site. The pace will be casual.
Moderate hike with Janet on the Pine Knot Loop , 4 miles, 500 ft. elevation gain, starting at the Aspen Glen Picnic area meanders thru stands of white fir and Jeffrey pine providing good views of Big Bear Lake. We will connect to the Pine Knot trail for the return loop.
Moderate/difficult hike with Ed C. to Grandview Point Lookout. 7 miles, approx. 1,000 feet elevation gain. Starting from the picnic area we will climb thru lovely wooded trails and meadows to an overlook above Redlands. Bring water, layered clothing, sunscreen, hat, insect repellant, and good hiking boots.
National Forest Adventure Pass is required for parking.

Plantation Loop – Big Bear Lake – MTHC

8:30am, moderate, 4.5 miles, 500 ft. elevation gain. Trick or Treat Trail starts off 2N10 at the Penny Pines Plantation and climbs to skyline Ridge in both forest and chaparral. Walk on 2N10 to Clark’s Grade and return via the Plantation Trail making a nice loop. Bring water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, and hiking boots. National Forest Adventure Pass required for parking. 8:15am, moderate/ strenuous, 8 miles . this is an introduction to backpacking and the requirements of overnight camping in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. A single overnight, backpack from IN82 off Jenks Lake Road to John’s Meadow an camp near Forsee Creek. Meet at the Von's Shopping Center in Big Bear Lake. BRING: ten essentials, layered clothing, over-night camping equipment, bear vault, water purification pump or drops, trekking poles, sun protection, adequate water, food, sunglasses, hat and good hiking shoes.
